As you might have guessed, I don’t think there’s enough education or encouragement on the concept of duty in our professional lives.
I think the push for the rights of individual freedoms is fine, good even. But all freedoms come with an associated responsibility. This is why children are not allowed certain freedoms, because they do not have the maturity to shoulder the responsibilities that are commensurate with those freedoms they long for. A society with freedoms without responsibility is anarchy, in the same way that a society with responsibilities but without freedom is tyranny.
The responsibility that comes with that freedom is duty. If you visit Thermopylae, you will notice the inscription on the Spartan burial mound:
Tell the Spartans, stranger passing by,
That here obedient to their laws we lie.
